P7M Sustrans Oobleck fun

27th Apr 2022

Ian, from Sustrans, came to school and showed us how to make oobleck. Oobleck is the stuff in our knee and elbow pads which feels soft, but becomes hard when we fall, protecting our knees and elbows.

We used cornflour and water in a ratio of 2:1 to make it. If we try to hold it in our hands it is a liquid, but when we squeeze it, it becomes a solid. We got quite messy, but it dried off quickly and we could brush it off.

Oobleck is a non Newtonian liquid and gets its name from the green slime in Dr Seuss’ book, Bartholomew and the Oobleck which Lily read part of!
